Reading Assignments
There are two research papers given as reading assignments for this course (note the "+1 A" in the course catalogue, corresponding to 30 hours of work time). The research papers will be part of the final exam.
The first reading assignment is "Formalizing Human Ignorance: Collision-Resistant Hashing without the Keys" by Phillip Rogaway [pdf,ps].
Exams
There will be two written intermediate exams during the semester and one final exam during the exam session. All exams are 'closed book': No supplementary material is permitted. The grade of each intermediate exam amounts to 20% of the final grade, and the grade of the final exam amounts to 60% of the final grade. For students that are unable to attend the intermediate exams for important reasons (illness with medical certificate, military service), oral exams will be arranged.
The intermediate exams will cover the contents of the lecture and the exercises up to the corresponding date. The intermediate exams are planned for 60 minutes and scheduled for October 20 and November 24 (during the lecture). The final exam will cover the contents of the lecture, the exercises, and the reading assignments.
